Circular Hotel Interiors

Context

While the tourism sector in Luxembourg has observed a positive growth over the last years, the reality of the field is showing a rather contrasted picture. On the one hand, hotels belonging to large hotel chains (Ibis, Hilton, Accor Hotels, Mercure, etc.) regularly invest in renovation, enabling them to keep a competitive accommodation offer. On the other hand, independent hotels of small and medium size are struggling to find solutions to stay profitable and this part of the market is lacking investments in order to keep a good customer image. The overall concept of circular economy (CE) offers a full range of solutions to reduce the financial barriers to the modernization of hotel interiors. Thus, this CE approach will enable the tourism sector in Luxembourg to benefit from a better accommodation offer and to stimulate the regional economy.

Our Mission

The mission of +ImpaKT was to study the opportunities that the circular economy approach can offer to hotels in the region in order to facilitate a regular modernization of hotel interiors. The objectives of this study were defined as follows:

  • Better understand the current financial barriers by analyzing the costs related to regular renovations and a long time period of non-renovation;
  • Identify regional partners, who are potentially interested in this approach and could propose circular solutions to facilitate a regular renovation;
  • Identify a pilot project to demonstrate the technical and economic feasibility of such an approach.
