Municipalities – key actors of the circular economy!

After the adherence of all Luxembourg municipalities to the Pacte Climat, a governmental programme targeting mainly the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, it is of crucial importance that these actors start now to realise the opportunities and gains that can arise from adopting a circular economy (CE) strategy. We have summarised key actions for circular municipalities in an article, published by our partner Infogreen (-> LINK to the article).
In a nutshell, municipalities can leverage CE by developing their own services and infrastructures in a CE sense, adopting favorable regulatory and financial frameworks or by supporting and facilitating third actors, such as cooperatives through public-private partnerships (e.g. the picture showing a PV installation of a citizen energy cooperative on the roof of a municipal building in Kayl-Tétange, Luxembourg, courtesy of Enercoop sc /Transition Minett).
Interesting insights on the topic cans also be gained from the presentation of Guy Spanier, municipality of Schifflange, held mit-September at the ESPON seminar on spatial challenges of the CE (and the Third Industrial Revolution) for Luxembourg (-> LINK to the seminar outcomes).
